Most people will transform into the second stage...
You might wanna look at it that way.
Me, I feel that mage second stage is way overrated...spells take forever, even if they're powerful. Still, mages are powerful...most likely to MVP a monster.
Merchants take forever to lvl up from what I hear. They're pretty well loved though (correction: very annoyed) for their DC and OC abilities.
Swordsman, they're easy to lvl, and kinda fun to use
Knightwise, very powerful...But swordsmen are way too common.
It's up to you though, I suggest you pick one with your eyes closed and see how you like it. Half the fun of RO is finding out all the little things, like which class you feel is better, Does this next enemy drop a card...

well which class do you think would be must rewarding for you to play?
Do you like the though of being able to help out your friends and the ragnarok online community with a Merchant/Blacksmith?
maybe you prefer to have the destruktive power of a mage, being able to give the fire support which can make or break a fight.
or do you find it enjoyable to charge into a battle roaring death defying battlescream, protecting people from the beast of rune-midgard?
or maybe there's another class that you feel fits better with your roleplay
offcourse this doesn't reflect which class is easist to become powerfull with, but I don't really know what you prioritise.
