notepad comes to mind...It's great for text files. It also kinda works for exes, but I think you might want a decompiler to help out with anything more complex than a text file.

yea...notepad might let you see some of the program, but most of it will be unreadable. you'll need to find out what language it was coded in, then find an appropriate decompiler. then if notepad isn't enough (works fine for java), you'll need the correct program to open the code.

btw: i think this is more suited in the programming/reverse engineering forum, so i'll just plop this over there.

those are called decompilers, and it would be different programs depending on the language the program was written in. im am pretty sure there is none for VB, there might be some for C/C++, and there are lots for Java.
take a look on google.

[edit] oops lol i posted this like minutes after DaiShi. guess he's a faster typer.

hehe, sorry bout that. actually, there are vb decompilers, but it's not easy to find a good free one. some places will only do certain versions, like 5 or 6. you send them the file and they'll decompile it for a price, like 50 bucks. it's for programmers who lose the source code and have no other choice... i remember using a vb decompiler for the try 2 hack challenge thing. i'm sure that thread is still here somewhere...

check cache. notepad is good enough to get the pw. don't need to get macromedia to open up the flash.

edit: original thread about try2hack

www.programmerstools.org <-- has lots of goodies, all 'real' programming languages compile down to a solid assembly, even vb does it, so i use ollydbg to pull off most of my stuff (i have that up for download.)
