Thanks for the reply
And regarding DaiSHi's last post, yes, Win ME does shut down a lot faster. I have it. the only bad things is that it has soo many errors. it has problems with shutting down, it generates problems when I turn on my com again etc.
*sigh*

i use winME and i have no problems at all.. everyone always complains about it, but i've never had problems except for my POS video card.
i had lots of problems with win98, but i was able to rig my pc so i would not get them anymore.. kinda like i had to work around the errors.
win2k i use at work and it runs great for work purposes, but its on a faster pc than my home pc and runs slower. i couldn't imagine playing a game on this machine and its 1.2ghz..
at least thats my experiances.. my friend has winXP and it causes all kinds of problems for him, but he's not all that bright.. so it might just be a user problem there.
and.. every time a new windows comes out i hear "it sucks" "its the worst", my suggestion is to not knock it till you've tried it for yourself. I'm sick of all the people who say winME sucks and never even tried it before.

"user problems" i get that a lot at work. i call it "user error." (i.e. "my screen is black" "turn the monitor on")
btw, if anyone has worked with nt 4.0, how do you check the hardware config? in other os's i go control panel-system--hardware tab-hardware config. but that button doesn't exist in the hardware tab of nt... my friend swore he put in a 40gb hd, but the total of the partitions was about 60 gb... lol... wanted to check the hard drive config, but couldn't get to it.

if ur using 98 try typing in "msconfig" in the run command, then look at the startup tab. i used to have a program, i think it was called reg cleaner, and it showed me my startup items and let me set them.

In Win 98, there's also a 'delay startup' option, but I can't remember which file it was in. Needless to say, if you changed it from 5 secs already, don't bother finishing this reply.
Although there wasn't much left to finish...
Wait! What's your startup time anyway? You must have a godlike computer if it starts in less than 10 secs...

i wish 10 seconds... 20 seconds is more reasonable... i have one problem with my comp being too fast... i don't see the initial load bar with the black background, in other words i don't have the opportunity to hit F8 for other boot options like safe mode.

i'd get rid of that virus scanner.. unless its actually been useful to you a lot its more likely just slowing you down.
(you probably know this already, but i'm used to telling people..) just because you remove it from the start up doesn't mean its not on your computer, it just means that it will take longer to load that particular program once your at the windows desktop.
i don't know about your other programs, but u probably don't need them unless you use it every time windows loads up. The only thing i have is my screen saver.. (i really don't know why it needs to be there either).
